Drowning in plastic | Visualising the world’s addiction to plastic bottles

After last week’s lecture on data visualization, I decided to look into what artists and data scientists have created to make interactive, engaging, and new ways of displaying their data and message. I came across this piece by Simon Scarr and Marco Hernandez, which does a fascinating job at demonstrating the immense amount of plastic that is produced, and which is ultimately harmful to the planet, by comparing piles of plastic produced by world monuments. I recently did my PSA assignment on plastic pollution, and I completely agree with the message behind this piece: reduce plastic usage, production, and pollution.

You can scroll through the page here and look at how the amount of plastic produced compares to other world monuments, such as the Eiffel Tower, and Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
