Public playgrounds seem like a last priority in the coronavirus era, and yet there is so much beauty in reimagining these spaces that are so often taken for granted. I remember very uniform and stilted playground designs in the New York City when I was growing up. I think those color and designs did more to keep me away than bring me to them. These new playground designs, however, give me hope that children will be compelled to socialize and explore outside, once conditions permit. I noticed how often the geometric features are emphasized in these designs. I wonder to what extent children are more engaged by bold shapes.
